120 YEARS AT THE HEART OF WINEMAKING IN BORDEAUX

Château Lacbleu

“Since 1899, Château Lacbleu has a long history of attracting entrepreneurial winemakers whose ambition was to connect Bordeaux with the rest of the world. As the wine industry has become ever more global, so have we.”

Mlle Lilly, Director at Château Lacbleu

A brief history of the château

Originally constructed at the end of the 18th century, around the time of the French Revolution, Château Lacbleu experienced great success and quickly became a local landmark in Bordeaux. It grew rapidly over the decades as wine production, and consumption, increased across the continent.

However, even this wonderful vineyard was not immune to the great phylloxera epidemic of the 19th century that devastated vineyards across the whole of Europe. As a result, winemaking all but stopped at the château and it was some time before it was restarted. It was over this time that the owner decided to pivot from purely making wine, to becoming a trading hub for the emerging global wine market.

Over the course of its history, the château has passed through several notable owners – including the distinguished Audebert family. It was under the care of the Audeberts that Château Lacbleu’s vines were restored to being some of the finest in the area.

We bring together fantastic local growers and discerning customers, globally

Today, we maintain the tradition of growing our own wines. However, our main focus remains the sourcing top-quality local wines from vineyards in some of the finest appellations in France and bringing them to wine lovers across the globe.

Did you know that there are over 6,000 vineyards just within Bordeaux? Yet most people can name just a handful.

The reality is that there are many beautiful wines being grown in France that just don’t get the fame that they deserve. Often the production volumes are just too small to be viable business on their own and they ending up being blended with lesser wines and sold en masse to supermarkets or wholesalers.

Our challenge is to find those wines and bring them to you at our most competitive prices. The Lacbleu brand exists to bring you these exceptional wines, direct from the producers, with true provenance and full transparency.

It is a challenge we love and every year Château Lacbleu ships over 60,000 bottles of wine to our customers mainly in Europe and Asia. Now, having left the EU, we have established a separate business in the United Kingdom so that you can continue to enjoy Lacbleu wines here too. All of our wines are already tax-paid, stored in our state-of-the-art wine cellar in central London and ready for you to purchase online in our Wine Shop.
