This pan is made from carbon steel and needs to be seasoned prior to use. Instructions on how to do this can be found either on the pan's sleeve or at debuyer.com. Carbon steel is not dishwasher safe and will rust with prolonged exposure to water. This is not a manufacturing defect but is rather an inherent characteristic of steel, and unfortunately we do not accept returns of pans that have been left to rust.
